Showtime

It's been a long time since my last post! I guess I've been so absorbed by work latley that the days just went by without me noticing. I was however fortunate enough to have the time over to watch some great films wich I would like to recomend!
As chance would have it, they both tell stories about the life of on stage entertainers.

Some week ago I finaly got to watch l'illusioniste, I've been really exited about it ever since I saw the first trailers for it. It's directed by Sylvain Chomet, who also directed one of my absolute favourite movies, Les triplettes de Belleville.
I will never get tiered of the animation in theese movies, it's so beautifuly detailed, quirky and smooth (fans of the Layton school of animation are sure to enjoy). The illusionist is not all as fun as the tripplet from Belleville was since the mood is quite melancolic but I would say it's just as good and definetley wort a watch.

The next film I had a look at was The Black Swan, there's been a lot of buzz around this movie so I would be suprised if there is anyone out there who haven't seen it yet, but if you by any chance missed it I would recomend you to get to the theatre while it's still playing. I saw it first on my computer and the other day in theatre and I will say it's always worth the extra money to se a film this visualy stunning on the big screen. I had much longer, rant filled, enteries for both of theese movies planned but after thinking about it for a couple of days I just don't feel like nitpicking and whining anymore. I don't want to ruin it! It's been such a long time ago since I saw something new, original and on top of that really, really good so I'll just leave you with my warmest recomendations and hope you'll enjoy them as much as I did.

A date with Alice

Finaly heading out to see Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland tonight with my mom.
For what has feelt like the last six months everybody seems to have had the Wonderland fever and I've heard both good and bad things about the movie so I'm curious to see what it will be like. I generally speaking really like Tim Burton and I am, big suprise, a huge Alice fan but I also generally speaking really hate abuse of CGI and 3D movies.
I probably won't do a long rant about it as I sometimes do because I'm so behind, but it would still be interesting to hear what you fans of Burton and Lewis Carroll thought about it! Drop me a comment with your opinior or a link to your review of this spectacle, won't you?

Sherlock Holmes premiere rant

I managed to drag myself to a premiere sceening of the new Sherlock Holmes movie last night and as a nice suprise to myself, I wasn't offended by it. For those pf you who didn't know I'm a huge Sherlock fan (a bit of a Shertard if you will) and I was a little scared of this movie since the trailer sort of advertised this new take on the character like some 1800-century James Bond, handcuffed naked in a hotelroom and fist fighting with his shirt off. It also added the obigatory Hollywood femme fatale in the shape of Irene Adler who is a rather minor character that I don't really like in the book, I didn't like her in the movie and I don't like the actress who plays her but without really spoiling anything I will say it could have been worse. I liked both Robert Downey JR and Jude Law in this and thankfully the character of Sherlock has still maintained alot of his essense and is not a complete meathead like I feared.
I would recomend you to go see it, it was better then I expected and requiers really no knowledge about anything Sherlock to enjoy it I think and it was an okay mystery with great music, beautiful scenery and good action.

Bloody basterds

Col. Hans Landa är min nya flick fantasi.

Translation:
Ylva treated me to the movies on tuseday, we saw Inglorious Basterds. I had some issues with the crude violence of this movie, I often find Tarantinos movies balancing on a tightrope between things I love and hate. The acting was great, at times brilliant, and once again I love the look of WWII. It was worth seeing even though I hated the ending, I felt like it was totally ridicilous to be honest but I'm sensetive to medeling with history in movies. A lot of peopel don't take the time to read up on history and instead claim every loosley history based movie they ever saw to be absolute truth. I can just picture the ludicrous conversations to come.
On a side note, Hans Landa, played by Christoph Waltz, is my new current crush.

Translation:
I finally saw Valkyrie in anticipation of Inglorious bastards, I really liked it and now I suspect the build up might even be better then the pay off. As a side note I also think Tom Cruise looks better then Brad Pitt, I don't know if it's the german uniform on Tom or just the force of nature hitting poor Brad.

Azur e Asmar
